Facts about Carly

How do you define leadership?
Leadership to me means collaborating with others and accepting that my plan or solution may not always be the best one! Leaders listen and adapt to those they lead, and know teamwork is vital to success.

What was your first job?
My first job was a clinical dental hygienist in my hometown of Parkersburg, WV for 5 years. The opportunity arose to work for WVU Research Corporation in Charleston, WV and I jumped to it immediately to grow professionally and be closer to my boyfriend and his daughter.

What are your favorite hobbies?
I love reading, spending time outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.

What is the last book you’ve read? How would you rate it? (1-5 stars)
I'm currently reading "Big Friendship: How We Keep Each Other Close" by Animatou Sow and Ann Friedman. It's about collaborating with friends, turning professional competitors into allies, and the power of women who work together. I would DEFINITELY recommend this book to the women in this group, and absolutely rate it 5 stars.

How did your career path lead you to WVU?
I have worked clinical dental hygiene for years, and also had a part-time job in dental sales. This brought me to the school occasionally to talk to students about products they could encounter in the profession and offer "Words of Wisdom". My former dental hygiene classmate asked me if I knew anyone who would be interested in a position in Charleston, and I said "ME!" I came back to my alma mater for onboarding and the rest was history.

What is your name, unit, and position?
