Describe your work at WVU in three words.
I Leadership, Extension, Students
How do you define leadership?
As a leadership educator, I ascribe to Northouse's definition of leadership: "a
process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a
common goal." I love the idea of leadership as a two-way reciprocal process,
where both leaders and followers are influenced, informed, and ultimately transformed
by their interaction with each other.
Where did you attend undergrad/graduate school?
B.S. in Interdisciplinary Agriculture at Texas Tech University
M.S. in Agricultural Education at Texas Tech University
Ph.D. in Agricultural Education at Oklahoma State University
What was your first job?
In high school, I worked at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. I
would help run all different types of shooting competitions each week!!
What are your favorite hobbies?
I love cooking/baking, paddle-boarding, traveling, skiing (snow), listening to
audiobooks (historical biographies have been my favorite the past few years),
and (one of my top 5 Strengths) LEARNING!
What is the last book you've read? How would you rate it? (1-5 stars)
Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. I would rate it 5 out 5 stars!
What is your favorite place to travel/visit? or If you could visit anywhere, where
would you go?
A few favorites are Charleston, South Carolina, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Fredericksburg,
Texas. If I could visit anywhere, I would go back to Ireland in a heartbeat!
Who would you want to swap places with for a day? (At WVU or anywhere)
Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec! Even though she's a fictional character, I always
try to channel her work ethic, her never-give-up attitude, and her contagious
enthusiasm and positivity.
How did your career path lead you to WVU?
When I was completing my doctorate, I knew that I wanted to find a position that
combined my love of academia and Extension. I found that perfect mix of both
here at WVU with my split appointment in the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural
Resources and Design, and WVU Extension.
What is your name, unit, and position?
Haley Rosson,
Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Design
Assistant Professor
