Facts about Sarah

How do you define leadership?
To me, leadership is inspiring a group of people, or even an individual, to work toward a common vision, but more importantly, guiding them to a self-discovery of their own leadership strengths and/or talents.

What are 3 traits that define you?
Integrity, evolving, observant.

What was your first job?
Video World - Though this is essentially obsolete now, it was a fun first job!

How did your career path lead you to WVU?
My background is in Education and Educational Leadership. I spent ten years teaching 4th and 5th-grade students, and during the last two to three years, I was disheartened by the number of problems students were facing, most of which were out of their hards. I witnessed students affected by the drug epidemic, mental health problems, obesity, and much more. There was only so much I could do, so I started looking for something in a different field, but that would still indirectly impact the students. When I learned about WVCTSI and its purpose, I knew I had to apply for the Professional Development position. Joining WVCTSI and WVU has allowed me to engage and work alongside professionals on the front lines researching and tirelessly working to find solutions to the unique health challenges students and their families in our state are facing.

What are your top 3 life highlights?
Garrett - My 17-year-old son. He is very much like me, somewhat quiet and introverted, but enjoys people and participating in engaging activities. Marissa - My 15-year-old daughter. She has more grit than any person I know and never backs down from a challenge. Kailee - My 13-year-old daughter. She has an amazing spontaneity and zest for life!

What is your name, unit, and position?
